Torah Study > Chapter 7: Universalism and Particularism > Text 3

What does it mean to be blessed?

What does it mean to be a blessing to others?

How might being blessed enable you to be a blessing to others?

How might this verse be a response or answer to the tension
between the particularism of being a Jew and the universalism of
being a human?

There are two parts to this blessing: Abraham and his family will be
blessed by becoming great, and Abraham will in turn become a blessing
to others. One way to read this text is to understand that it is, in fact, our
Judaism which enables us to make positive contributions to the universal
challenges facing humanity.
